Beagle2

Where is Beagle2 going to crash?

Beagle2

Beagle2

Beagle2 should be landing on the Mars surface at 2003-12-25T02:50z. The image below is mock-up image showing the projected landing area, along with some of the more well known places on Mars.

Projected landing site for Beagle2

Warning

The full size image is 780 kB!

The actual region is Isidis Planitia. Beagle2 is expected to land within approximately a 200x100 kM zone centered at 11N, 269W.

This region was chosen because the northern hemisphere has a considerably more stable temperature during the spring, reducing the stress on the lander and creating a more stable environment for running tests. [or was it just to beat NASA’s Athena mars rover projects to the spot?]
